RTA Approves Trotwood Greyhound Hub
LocalThe downtown Greyhound terminal is moving to Trotwood, despite some residents' objections.

GreyhoundGreater Dayton Regional Transit Authority has agreed to move the Greyhound terminal to RTA's Northwest Hub on Shiloh Springs Road.  RTA officials said they just need final approval from Greyhound for the move.

Several neighborhood associations have heavily protested the move, which has been discussed by RTA for more than a year.

Angered residents say the Greyhound buses will bring in more criminals, and the buses will damage the roads.  The Greyhound hub is expected to handle about 20 buses a day once an agreement is finalized -- the RTA hub currently handles nearly 300 buses a day.

RTA Executive Director Mark Donaghy has said such comments are troubling and show gross misconceptions about Greyhound by the people of Trotwood.

Residents look to recall Mayor Davis
LocalDarreyl DavisSeveral Trotwood residents joined together to petition to have Mayor Darreyl Davis recalled at a Monday evening city council meeting.

The recall committee which presented the petition said the mayor has not lived up to the promises he made during his campaign that got him into office and they said they lost confidence in him.

Residents opposing a proposed move of Greyhound bus operations to the city’s RTA hub say it’s a matter of safety and it will disrupt a neighborhood.

Last Second free-throw sends Trotwood home
SportsThe Big Game lived up to all the hype, all the anticipation and all the expectation. When it ended, there was ecstasy for Centerville and agony for Trotwood-Madison.

Photo courtesy of Jan Underwood, Dayton Daily NewsMatt Kavanaugh's free throw with eight-tenths of a second remaining gave the Elks a 52-51 victory over Trotwood in the D1 district final on Saturday.  The Rams, who never led in the showdown of Greater Western Ohio Conference powerhouses, finish 20-4.

Senior point guard Keith Winn scored 16 points and Aaron Robinson 15 for the Rams. Dominique Reed — in his first game back since breaking his right hand in a Feb. 10 locker-room fight with teammate Marcus Graham — had eight points and three rebounds.

"I'm very, very proud of my guys, especially my seniors," Trotwood coach Mark Baker said. "I wanted it for them so bad. I told them that in the competitive arena, you always want to give yourself a chance. We gave ourselves a chance. We just came up short."

Trotwood-Madison 62, Springfield 37
Sportsnews: TR-SPR3-8.jpgTrotwood turned up the defense Sunday afternoon against Springfield during the D-1 district semi-final game, cruising to a 62-37 victory over the Wildcats.

With a 32-29 lead in the third quarter, the Rams "D" kicked it in gear, and never looked back as Springfield faded into the distance, forcing 24 turnovers for the game.

Aaron Robinson led the offensive attack with a game-high 29 points, and 12 of 14 from the free-throw line.

Trotwood now heads to the District Final game on Saturday March 14 at UD Arena.  They will most likely face the #1 seed Centerville for the D-1 Championship, who goes against Greenville tonight (3/9/09) in their semi-final at UD Arena.

Local wrestler going to state tourney
Sports

Hugh MaloneTrotwood-Madison senior Hugh Malone took everything in at the state wrestling tournament last season. He was one of thousands at the Jerome Schottenstein Center at Ohio State University.

"Going to state last year really pushed me," Malone said. "Seeing the mentality, watching coach (Lenard Jackson) and seeing people still wrestling ... just seeing where you can be if you push yourself."

The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder dedicated himself to making state. "I watched coach last year and I wanted so bad for him to not just sit in the stands, but to go and coach, and for me to wrestle there," said Malone. "My freshman year, my goal was to go to the state tournament and win it. Now, I got a chance to do this."
